2022-23 Marvin and Kathleen Stone Research Fellows

This academic year, the Marvin and Kathleen Stone Research Fellowship goes to an outstanding undergraduate student, and last year recipient of MKS Fellowship, Arlin Khan, a double-major in neuroscience and history at BBS/A&H. Congratulations, Arlin!

Last year, Arlin explored the role of religious beliefs and cultural traditions in response to epidemics in the past. Specifically, her research project “Islam’s Influence on Middle Eastern Plague Response” focused on how Islam shaped healthcare practices and coping with the Black Death in the Middle East.

This year, Arlin will continue her studies on the intersection of culture and health, and will work on  influence of disease discrimination in the marriage market. Her research will focus on the ways gender, cultural factors, and prevalence of a disease in a region affect rates of discrimination against people who have or have had certain diseases and are actively looking for a spouse.
